The Lord Mayors Show, 1845. Creator: Smyth
The Lord Mayors Show, 1845. Annual celebration for the inauguration of a new Lord Mayor of London: Spectacle Maker John Johnson was chosen in 1845. Besides the state coach of the Lord Mayor, the procession was made up of livery companies, watermen, heralds, riders in historical costume including knights in armour, hussars, aldermen and officials. The Lord Mayor elect was received throughout with every demonstration of respect, and occasionally with considerable cheering; not so his predecessor. Hence at various points in the route, especially at Walbrook and the junction of Cheapside with St. Pauls Churchyard, the ex Lord Mayor was met with loud hisses and expressions of disrespect.
