41 Sqaudron Tornado GR4, preparing to test fire four Storm Shadow missiles
Image of a 41 Sqaudron (the RAFs test and evaluation Sqn) Tornado GR4, preparing to test fire four Storm Shadow missiles over the Atlantic Ocean.
Storm Shadow is a long-range, stand-off, air-launched missile and is arguably the most advanced weapon of its kind in the world. The missile is equipped with a powerful UK-developed conventional warhead and is designed to attack important hardened targets and infrastructure such as buried and protected command centres. Mission and target data is loaded into the weapons main computer before the aircraft leaves on its mission. After release, the wings deploy and the weapon navigates its way to the target at low level using terrain profile matching and an integrated Global Positioning System (GPS)
