Sir Charles Russell, 1st Baronet, 1st Baron Russell of Killowen (1832-1900), was a prominent figure in British legal history as a lawyer and Lord Chief Justice. Born on February 22, 1832, in London, Russell was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1857. In 1880, Russell was elevated to the bench as a Lord Justice of Appeal, and in 1885, he became Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, a position he held until his retirement in 1900.
