This evocative photograph captures the heartwarming moment of the Homecoming of the Duke and Duchess of York, Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI, and his family, following their extensive tour of New Zealand and Australia in 1927. Seated in the front row, Queen Mary and the Duchess of York, Elizabeth, are beaming with joy as they hold their young daughters, Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Cecilia Nina Bowes-Lyon, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. The Duke of York, standing next to his father, King George V, appears proud and content. The Duke and Duchess had expressed their reluctance to leave their baby, Princess Elizabeth, behind during their tour, with the Duchess herself admitting to being "very miserable" at their departure. The summer of 1927 marked the end of their foreign tour and the beginning of their family's reunification.
