Myrna Loy in Evelyn Prentice (1934)
Myrna Loy in Evelyn Prentice (1934) wore an interesting pair of exercise pyjamas created by Dolly Tree which were made of powder blue crepe with navy blue embroidery. They were so comfortable and practical that Loy ordered half a dozen pairs made in various colour for her personal wardrobe. They featured long loose well-tailored trousers with a masculine cuff at the hemline. The coat was hip length and also loose ? its fullness tied at the waist by a narrow sash belt. There were wide lapels and patch pockets, one of which carried her monogram, hand embroidered in silk thread. Date: 1934

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the 1934 MGM production "Evelyn Prentice," the timeless beauty Myrna Loy is seen donning an intriguing pair of exercise pyjamas that were both stylish and functional. Designed by the renowned costume designer Dolly Tree, these pyjamas were a refreshing departure from the traditional glamorous gowns and elegant evening wear that were synonymous with Hollywood in the 1930s. The powder blue crepe pyjamas boasted navy blue embroidery, making them a charming blend of sophistication and comfort. Loy was so enamored with their design that she ordered no less than half a dozen pairs in various colors for her personal wardrobe. The long, loose trousers, with their masculine cuffs at the hemline, were not only comfortable but also stylishly tailored. The hip-length coat, also loose, added an air of casual elegance, its fullness tied at the waist by a narrow sash belt. The wide lapels and patch pockets, one of which bore Loy's monogram, hand-embroidered in silk thread, added a touch of personalized charm to the ensemble. This photograph, taken during the filming of "Evelyn Prentice," captures the essence of the era's unique blend of jazz age glamour and the emerging trend of sportswear. The image is a testament to the innovative designs that emerged from the MGM studios during the 1930s, where fashion and film intersected to create a visual language that continues to captivate audiences today.
