Lindsey Oil Refinery, North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire. An exterior view of the newly completed Alkylation Unit at Lindsey Oil Refinery.
Laing Industrial Engineering and Construction Limited (IEC) were involved in the construction of a Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Alkylation Unit at Lindsey Oil Refinery. There were many other sub-contractors on site, with Foster Wheeler as the main contractors. The project team began work on the site in May 1979. To keep the site dry and speed up progress, a Plettac covering made up of numerous small panels was constructed over the site. Work carried out by Laing IEC included the installation of thirteen thousand metres of pipework, 1400 valves, 30 heat exchangers, 18 drums and vessels, and 23 pumps

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the exterior view of the newly completed Alkylation Unit at Lindsey Oil Refinery in North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire. The construction of this Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Alkylation Unit was a monumental project undertaken by Laing Industrial Engineering and Construction Limited (IEC), with Foster Wheeler serving as the main contractors. The project team commenced their work on this site in May 1979, and to ensure efficiency and progress, a Plettac covering consisting of numerous small panels was erected over the area. This not only kept the site dry but also expedited the construction process. Laing IEC's contribution to this endeavor was extensive, involving the installation of thirteen thousand meters of pipework, 1400 valves, 30 heat exchangers, 18 drums and vessels, as well as 23 pumps. Such an impressive feat showcases their expertise in handling large-scale industrial projects. This image is a testament to the advancements made in oil refinery technology during the 1980s. It symbolizes industry development and production while highlighting how fuel plays an integral role in our daily lives. Preserved within Historic England Archive's collection, this photograph offers us a glimpse into a significant milestone for Lindsey Oil Refinery and serves as a reminder of our reliance on such facilities for meeting energy demands.
